laak return on austere with four cuts, only available on vinyl as usual. laak are on point with the opening track unbalanced, an intensely gritty track. there is also a remix of an archive laak track by dj spider who completely dismantles the original to create a dark menacing remix. the b side kicks off with mental & emotional which continues the theme along with the more laid back track, the rituals. overall an ep that will not disappoint fans of the label.

marcel vogels lumberjacks in hell welcome the disco master al kent into the fold with the two track yes i cant 12 inch. al kent is a true original. not interested in anything but disco. dying his hair in a truly unique fashion, to match the sparkle of disco balls and having recently hired an octopus to help him chop up those records. both *yes i do* and *cant stop* highlight the glaswegians importance to keeping the true spirit of disco alive, deftly and tightly edited in a manner that would impress messrs hardy and gibbons were they alive today.

top quality reissue of one of the holy grails of the deep house scene - the original deep south recordings release of mission controls classic *outer limits*. originally released in 1990, this floor-filling gem is one of the earliest productions by murk’s ralph falcon and one of his finest. with its deep analogue bass and cool spoken word vocals, it went on to become an underground classic and is now hugely in-demand with djs and collectors. on the flip is the often overlooked brilliance of *give yourself* by the other murk partner oscar g, a bass heavy slo-mo groover that just sounds incredible loud. absolutely essential, do not sleep!

seems bristol may not be the only bass-built uk city to spawn true dirtybird talent. midway up the little island the city of birmingham is boiling its bins and splitting its subs with the sounds of hannah wants and chris lorenzo.

one of the rarest and most sought after nigerian records is now finally reissued in beutifully remastered sound and with its original artwork.the amrtin brothers were the backing band on the pax nicholas & the netty family album and not only recorded as the tabansi studio band but also as saxon lee & the shadows international. this record presents them at their artistic peak. a solid listen throughout, this is not just another african reissue but an incredibly deep and mature album that stands its ground amongst the best funk and soul jazz albums world wide.

syndrome syndrome is gardlands debut full-length album. its timely release captures the fever pitch of gardlands off-kilter electronic music at the tail end of the groups first year.

a demo tape, sent to capitol records by the trash company in the early 90s, garnered this curt response from then president of the r&b division, joy bailey: some music was never meant to be heard. thug records returns with one of the most intriguing releases to grace the catalogue so far. not restricted by any one scene, max monroe of the trash company produces a hypnotic medley of original hard edge rhythm & blues, soul dance and classic psychedelic punk wave textures. armed with a condition known as synesthesia meaning he perceives sounds, words and letters in terms of color and a 4 track cassette recorder, the trash company has spent the last 30 years as a bedroom recording genius.

after his epic split with black deer, torn hawk comes back with a proper four track 12 inch, opening with an almost balearic/tropical, someone put something in my drink and i am melting house cut. trapdoor returns to wyatts skewed after school special add cali-speed freak bastard child drum machine/guitar lush not lushness. we get more end-titles on the b-side, as both songs could be the soundtracks for a night hanging in a parking lot drinking boxed wine and snorting ajax while auxilary police circle, threatening to harsh your mellow ... good times to say the least.

we kick off in fine style with the first official full length album from vatican shadow (aka dominick fernow from prurient/cold cave) after over a dozen cassette and vinyl only releases and reissues. includes additional production assistance from juan mendez (silent servant) vatican shadow is currently touring in europe including shows at sonar,fabric, richie hawtins enter ibiza, roskilde festival, berlin atonal and more vatican shadow was featured on the recent sandwell district mix cd for fabric.

a collaborative effort between marquis cooper (svengalisghost) and lili schulder (51717), this project was born in the winter of 2013. what can best be described as non-stop electronic erotic cabaret, the duo played a series of improvised performances which served as a structural backbone prior to the recording of this album. finished in merely two weeks, this 8 song double lp acts as a complete listening experience, engrossed in the down beat primitive electronics of the past whilst pushing further into the self-created anti-beat world of today. pulsing tones, off beat drums, melancholic vocals, and overall dark vibes characterize, but do not solely define what it is to truly trust in pain. mastered and cut by matt colton for maximum impact.

its been a big year for breach, a.k.a. ben westbeech. his track jack hasnt just blown up on danceoors across the globe: its laid waste to them. in the process, jack got to number 9 in the uk charts. not bad considering westbeech has always seen breach as an underground thing.

i came across j.cs music through the argentine label greener records on which he released the m-theory ep in early 2013. to this day, this 12inch has not left our record bag! i really like how j.c naturally blends a house feeling and groove with a techno vibe. in 2012, j.c started the ahd label together with his friend damian schwartz, releasing records from the likes of fred p, dj f, marcos cabral and epiphany. he also recently released a split ep with new york producer fred p on soul people music, as well as set the first release of his own label j.c records, which came out last month. i am very pleased to release his new record on deeply rooted.

already known for his phat basslines and raw attitude towards his production, s.jay does not hold back on any of his tracks for the record.
